Some poetry in praise of Spring

the air is like a butterfly
with frail blue wings
the happy earth looks at the sky
and sings.

-- Joyce Kilmer

Each leaf
each blade of grass
vies for attention.
Even weeds
carry tiny blossoms
to astonish us.

The Kitchen Prayer

Lord of all pots and pans and things
Since I've no time to be a great saint by doing lovely things,
Or watching late with Thee,
Or dreaming in the dawnlight,
Or storming heaven's gates,
Make me a saint by getting meals,
And washing up the plates.

Warm all the kitchen with Thy Love,
And light it with Thy peace;
Forgive me all my worrying,
And make my grumbling cease.
Thou who didst love to give men food,
In room, or by the sea, accept the service that I do—
I do it unto Thee.

Persephone: Life Springs Eternal

Life springs eternal
The sun shines.
The air is warm and sweet.
I play, I learn, I grow.
And then retreat
To ponder what I've learned.
I will return one day
To greet the sun.
And I'll share
Who and what I became
While in the dark.
